Hurricanes win battles, but lose war against Cambridge

Despite winning most of the battles on the ice, the Guelph Hurricanes came away empty losing 4-3 to the Cambridge Winter Hawks tonight in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action .

Guelph (now 0-3-0) outplayed Cambridge ( now 2-0-1) in the first period and were rewarded with their first lead of the young season on a short handed goal by Ken Rolph.

Cambridge came back with 3 goals one off he stick of  Brett Priesap and two from Mike Sones, and it looked like they would have take a 3-1 lead into the 2nd Intermission when Zach Dion would pull the Canes within one with his first of the year.

3-2 Cambridge after two periods.  (Shots Guelph 23, Cambridge 20)

Cambridge would score what proved to be the winner on a blast off the stick of Cody Hall to take the lead 4-2.

But despite being down by two goals, the Hurricanes never quit. They kept winning the little battles and pulled to within one on an Andrew Van Ooteghem goal with just over 11 minutes remaining.

With time running out Guelph pulled goalie Trevor McGee with 1:07 to play in game. But Cambridge hung on to preserve the victory.

Final Score: Cambridge 4, Guelph 3 (Final Shots Guelph 32, Cambridge 25)

The Guelph Hurricanes next game is against the 0-2-0 Kitchener Dutchmen, Saturday September 19th, 7:30 pm at The Sleeman Centre.

Tickets: only $8 for adults, $6 for students and $2 for kids.
